RETROactive was launched six months ago and thanks to all of you it has grown into a blog followed by nearly 125 people. Over 60 blog posts have been published, covering topics such as: the conservation of historic windows; roadside heritage markers; the history of various Provincial Historic Resources; how to complete Municipal Heritage Surveys/Inventories and how Albertans can access conservation funding.

I’m on the municipal heritage steering committee for the city of Lacombe. We’re in the earlier stages of figuring out heritage policy for the city and going through the process of designating buildings. I’m enjoying the blog posts as a way to learn of province-wide heritage events and news and see examples of how other municipalities are protecting their heritage resources.

Hello,
I am a staff member working with the MD of Foothills No.31 Historical Review Committee. This blog is interesting and valuable, it would be a real shame to lose it. I am quite sure that more Albertans would follow the blog, if they knew that it existed. It is important to give the exposure to all historically important sites so Albertans become more aware of our heritage.

Hi there,
I’m a graduate student in the Heritage Conservation program at Carleton University in Ottawa. I stumbled across this blog during a wander on the world wide web. I’ve always been interested in the Alberta system of heritage conservation (spent a summer interpreting at the Atlas Coal Mine NHS out near Drumheller!), and this blog is an informative and engaging way to keep up with what’s going on out West!
Through this blog, I would love to learn more about Alberta’s approach to conservation, especially how smaller communities are working- and what resources they have available- to conserve and interpret their heritage. I would also be really interested to know how Alberta’s Aboriginal heritage and cultural landscapes are being conserved.
